Take LA Restaurants By Storm

January 31, 2012

Get your Game Face On!

The second week of Dine LA is under way and goes through Friday. If you don’t know what this is, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Restaurants all around LA join in on the promotion and fine tune a three course dinner for a fix price to show off their establishments and sometimes award-winning delights.

Take a look at the list and pull up the menus to decide which best fits your adventure level. You can search by price, neighborhood, cuisine, etc.

Coax your friends into an outing at a nicer restaurant using this promotion or take a hot date. Stimulate one sense and the others may follow suit.

Everyone loves a deal too, right? You can live it up Park Place style or hit up a cheaper option.

Why are you in living in LA anyway? One of those reasons should be to partake in some inventive and first class dining. We have some amazing chefs at our beck n’ call, cuz that’s how we roll. Chances for dining next to Clooney or Jessica Alba are greatly increased too. I’m just saying…

Where is Whaledo?

January 10, 2012

The hunt is on, every day at 10am and 1:30pm from the Redondo Beach Pier. The migration season is now and the boat trips to see these beautiful creatures are through mid-April. Start your new year with a new activity and be inspired by nature.

Whale Watching @ Redondo Sportfishing

233 North Harbor Drive
Redondo Beach, CA

http://www.redondosportfishing.com/boat_voyager.php

$15 during the weekday and $25 for the weekends is a bargain. The weekends sell out fast, so call ahead of time for reservations.

Suit up in your finest skipper outfit and hop aboard The Voyager. You will spend the day playing “I spy” and fine tuning your sea legs. When you do come upon these mammals of the sea, you can confirm your hunting skills are in-tact should the apocalypse come soon.

Say what you will about touristy adventures, this one is pretty rad. Living next to the ocean we should all take advantage of what it offers and the nature spectacular that is happening in our front yard. Even if you don’t see a whale (which isn’t guaranteed this isn’t Disneyland), you will have a nice boat ride on the open seas and some beautiful scenery. Afterwards you can stroll the pier and snack on some delicious churros too. Then, you can revisit them on the Tilt-A-Whirl, if you get my gist.

Enjoy and happy hunting!

You Didn’t Heed My Warning

December 29, 2011

Procrastination. We have all done it before. Still undecided?  You should review the options below for a brief run down on the Westside events and choices over yonder (past the 405) with professional entertainment.

Plan A (You Heard Me): Tickets are still available at $175. The choice is now. The cheaper choice was earlier, but you can still get in.

Viceroy

819 Ocean Avenue, Santa Monica, CA
https://westsidecnotes.wordpress.com/2011/12/13/party-like-its-two-thousand-and-twelve/

Plan B: You can play Casino at the Wilshire . Chances are De Niro won’t be there, but that’s good for you as one “could get twenty-five years to life in prison just for skimming a casino, sick or no fuckin’ sick you knew people were going to get clipped.”

Safe Gambling at $125 which will get you unlimited premium drinks and play money. You may win a prize, you may win over a lady, or you may win a hangover. Let the games begin.

Wilshire

2454 Wilshire Blvd Santa Monica, CA
http://events.la.com/santa-monica-ca/

Plan C: You can don a mask and get all mysterious on us at Wokano. It’s a beautiful venue to boot. $40 gets you an hour and a half of free hors devours (so get there early) and a champagne toast at midnight. Take in a VIP room for $10 more. Although I’m not sure what extra fun is included in a VIP Room. The fun usually lies with the peasants. Enjoy down low or “have fun storming the castle”.

Wokano

1413 5th Street Santa Monica, CA

Plan B Entertained: If you don’t want to leave it up to amateurs, get some tickets and let the professionals entertain you.

Get your Soul Music on with:

Musiq Soulchild

@ House of Blues Sunset Strip

8430 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA

Or laugh your way into 2012 at either of these:

Party Like It’s Two Thousand and Twelve

December 13, 2011

 2012 will be my bitch.

Bring in the New Year like you own it. Don’t get stuck bouncing from party to party for that elusive pot of gold. You just might end up in the car while everyone in PST is cheering “Happy New Year”.  OR maybe you are thinking you want a respectable  low-key average Joe evening, but you are better than that and you know it. This is your year so welcome the happiness and success it will bring you. You should put your dancing shoes on, iron a shirt and open your arms to loving life. Besides if those Mayans were right, this could be your last one to celebrate.

Westsiders we have it easy. There is a party down the street with dancing music for your pleasure, premium cocktails made at your request (only the best for you) and delicious food to wash them down. Leave it up to the professionals to plan and grab your friends – the more the merrier. The decor will be beautiful, the drinks will be flowing and everyone will have their best foot forward to have a great time. Oh and did I mention that rad DJs from KCRW will be playing. This is the easiest decision I have ever made for you.

For an added bonus you can get $50-100 off by acting fast, if that was a sale on Black Friday, you would be camping out in a tent for it. Instead just go here, NOW: http://viceroyeownye.eventbrite.com/

KCRW Twenty Twelve @ Viceroy

1819 Ocean Ave.
Santa Monica, CA 90401

Ride your bike, take the bus, or call a cheap cab, so you can kick off your Sunday shoes. Ren McCormack is waiting for you.

Home is Where the Heart is

December 2, 2011

Hostaria del Piccolo is my new Italian home, west of the 405. Every taste was delicious and filled with amore.  The Italian cooks, staff and atmosphere fills my heart with joy. Instantly one is greeted with excitement of your arrival and later bid a good-bye with such appreciation.

It is wonderful to find a place that you want to spend your hard-earned free time and a place that appeases the taste buds as well.

Santa Monica, CA 90401

The dining room is unpretentious and rustic modern, but my favorite spot is on the back patio. It has the feel of a wonderful house dinner party. Relax, enjoy and don’t rush. They certainly won’t rush you. Each server waits on you with an authentic accent and the hospitality you would expect at your dearest Italian friend’s house.

The menu ranges from adventurous cuisines with squid ink, octopus, fried pig ears, and tongue to the norm’ of mozzarella, tomato, sausage and basil. Whichever road you take all the ingredients are of the quality type.

Take in their inventive drink menu and wine list while you are there too. “When the world seems to shine, Like you’ve had too much wine, That’s amore”

Ciao Bella!

Four Day Weekend?

November 23, 2011

Take a daycation up at the

J. Paul Getty Museum

1200 Getty Center Drive
Los Angeles, California 90049

I’ve heard ramblings about something that starts with Black and ends with Friday. If the long lines in the wee hours aren’t calling you and things you can’t afford during reasonable hours sound more interesting, head over to the Getty. It will be worth it even if you just want to catch a beautiful sunset. Worth it because it is free (only $15 parking fee) and you can hover over the crazed holiday crowds while sipping on a latte.

If you must see some great art while you are there, they have a wonderful exhibition up for the PST collaboration. California artists are at their best.

Pacific Standard Time: Crosscurrents in L.A. Painting and Sculpture, 1950–1970
Daily through February 5, 2012
http://www.getty.edu/art/exhibitions/crosscurrents/

After the art, grab some food at the café and sit on their modest extravagant marble porch designed by architect Richard Meier. You can stroll through the pristine gardens or just grab a coffee from the cart at the top too. There isn’t a bad seat in the house. It’s a day well spent. If you have four of them, why not do something with a view.

While you are there fill your lungs with the fresh air above the LA city streets. Take a moment and prepare for the next step in the holiday season.
