“The question is – what aren’t we going to do?”

October 4, 2012

There are many things going on this month for Halloween, so gear up and get your party face on.

Luckily for you, I have written a step by step manual for this month of October.

Step 1: Buy your KCRW Halloween Masquerade Ball ticket now. For the simple reason that is one hyphenated name “Z-Trip”. There are still pre-sale and available tickets. It always sells out, so do not pass go and do not pay full price. Buy them here: Kcrw Masquerade-2012

KCRW has offered up some sample listening to the Djs and Bands. Go here: Masquerade Music

If you still want to know more about why you should go read here: Westsidecnotes “trick-and-treat

Step 2: Start your shopping, sewing or procrastination now. The costumes are highly competitive at this party, so you better come up with something good. Trips to Aahs, Goodwill, or Michael’s are in your future. “Make it work”.

Step 3: Are you having trouble getting in the mood? That’s what she said. She also said to get over to the new Haunted House at Santa Monica Place. It will surely get you in the mood.

Info here: Paranoia Haunted Attraction

AND if that didn’t wet your whistle or you merely want more, you can go to the good ol’ stand by up at Universal Studios for their Halloween Horror Nights. You know I want to.

Info here: Halloween Horror nights

My previous most convincing write up here: Westsidecnotes “one-two-freddy’s-coming-for-you”

Step 4:  Lastly, Paranormal Activity 4 is back at a theater near you on Oct. 19th. I can hardly wait. Let’s go!

Here is the awesome trailer: Paranormal Movie Trailer

Follow these steps and come October 27th – 31st, you will be ready for All Hallows Eve fully stocked on nightmares. It’s the way it should be.

In my absence, let KCRW warm your bed

August 6, 2012

I’ve suddenly realized that I have been absent longer than usual on here, so before I jaunt off to the other side of the country, I will leave you with these morsels of awesome that KCRW alerted me to. (FYI: If you haven’t joined KCRW yet, do that first).

Image & 89.9 FM for the best music, events, news and it is our sweet home community of Santa Monica. Plus you can win tickets to see shows all over LA. Support!

While I am away –

Watch this and report back to me. It’s playing just a hop, skip and jump from your door:

Then, bake me this for my return celebration:

And jam to this while you perfect my pie:

Finally proceed here to buy tickets for this:

AND if you don’t know what to do on this Friday, go check out Norah Jones at the Bowl. Because I said so.

Tix still left on

Any questions?

“Circles in the Sand”

July 10, 2012

“Round and ’round
Rising of the moon as the sun goes down”

It’s that time of year again, where the fog is burning off earlier and the Westside dwellers are getting restless. Dust off your red cups, run your beach towel in the wash and make a run to Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods to prepare. On Thursday nights (until September) you must head down to the beach for the Santa Monica pier concerts. I’ll meet you there with summer glee and of course I’ll be under a waving gold star balloon. Nothing says happiness like friend circles in the sand and squishing your toes in it.

For this year’s line up go here:

If you have never been before, catch up on what it is about here:

“Things will be great when you’re Downtown”

June 15, 2012

The Los Angeles Theater is a true L.A. gem. You have to head downtown, but I assure you the venue is worth the freeway pains. The spirit of the theater is frozen in time and seeing the excitement of the new attendees is just as special. Your visit will transport you back to the old Hollywood glamour days.  The place is finely crafted in French Baroque-inspired decor, with a grand Titanic style staircase, ornamentation, mirrors, and murals adorning each nook and cranny.

Los Angeles Theatre

615 South Broadway Los Angeles, CA

The doors originally opened in the 30’s to screen a Charlie Chaplin movie and shut less than a year later due to the depression. They reopened and stayed open to regular screenings until the 90’s. Now there are only a few moments when you can partake in this time warp, so jump when I say jump. One of them being the “Last Remaining Seats” movie screenings that take place through the month of June. They also play movies at other wonderful old theaters, so get ready to explore.

Attending the screening of “The Big Sleep” was prefect to take in the theater and movie. It’s a wonderful way to catch up on old classics or re-experience the movie magic.

“Convenient, the door being open when you didn’t have a key, eh?”

The other option is to get invited to a private party there or throw one yourself. As that is not a likely option you should put the screening on your calendar and join me next time around.

Keep this page bookmarked and plan ahead. Sometimes the tickets sell out quickly to the popular classics.

Weekend Back-Up Plan

April 18, 2012

In case you are passing on the rage fest and music explosion that is Coachella, you can stick around LA this week and enjoy some mild temps while still taking in some good music and events. Some of the super music styling artists will even be gracing LA with their presence. Of course everything is close to sold out, but in some cases it is Stubhub to the rescue.

Batter up with the threesome that will get your booty moving:

Tonight, April 18th: Mike Snow at El Rey–la–4-18-2012-4052603?gcid=C12289x906

Next on is the group that inspires group love:

Tomorrow, April 19th: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros at Greek Theater

OR You can hear everybody’s favorite song

Tomorrow, April 19th: Gotye at Nokia LA Live

In the meantime, sing along to it here:

THEN detox your mind, body and spirit with some yogis at the three-day Tadasana Festival in Santa Monica

Friday-Sunday April 20-22nd: The Tadasana Festival in Santa Monica

To wrap it up, get your groove back on with your center in place and jam it old skool style.

Sunday the 22nd Paul Van Dyk at the Playhouse Nightclub

If this hasn’t quenched your thirst, you can always stream the Coachella Festival live on YouTube again.

Adios Los Angelenos and take care until we meet again with burned skin and a smile.

Cannonball Run – Coachella

March 26, 2012

Alright music fans, there are a few more weeks before the first Coachella weekend is upon us. The lineup is ridiculous and I would easily pay $50 for most of the artists on there. You know you would too.

The checkered flag is about to wave and “We’ve got a secret weapon. God is our co-pilot!” So, if you are still dying to go, you can bow to the scalpers and still get tickets. It’s still worth it in my humble opinion. Stubhub is showing tix for both weekends, although Weekend 2 is pricing at a lower rate. Good news, Weekend 2 will probably be a smoother running machine and have some final performance energy.

Weekend 1

Weekend 2

Need a little inspiration? No you don’t, but here you go anyway….

The visual spectacle is just as impressive as the music.

And if that didn’t do it. Guess what? You can see dinosaurs on your way and rub their bellies.

Yep, I knew that would do it. Now that you are convinced get the tix and find some lodging.

Here is the Coachella official list of housing:

I found mine on here:

Oh and just for your buying protection, if you are purchasing tickets on Craigslist or buying them off someone – here is a photo of what they really look like.

Start working on your best Burt Reynolds mustache and see you there!

Top of the Mornin’ To Ya

Everyone’s favorite Irish holiday is approaching. Green beer, pinching fingers and fair hairs unite.

You can get all riled up and go all out  at a big bash in Hollywood

Head downtown from 3-8pm for some festivities and a U2 Tribute Band
